Art Clay Silver 950 Professional
Art Clay Silver 950 is a new alloy formula of silver clay that is stronger and more flexible after firing.
This wonderful clay is perfect for creating stronger rings, cuffs, bracelets, clasps, and hinges!
More Strength
This new clay is approx. 60% stronger than regular Art Clay Silver .999 , and can be bend to about 90°
*Results may vary depending on firing and measuring conditions.
Its high strength allows for new design options and durability, especially for thinner, narrower, open-ended projects such as rings and cuffs. In addition, the jewelry’s surface is more resistant to scratches. This makes it a suitable product for artists who like to create delicate jewelry or jewelry that gets beat up with daily wear.
The techniques for creating projects with Art Clay Silver 950 Professional are exactly the same techniques as working with regular Art Clay Silver .999. The only differences with working with the new Silver Clay 950 are the shrinkage ratio and the firing. And both clays can be combined to create fabulous projects!
Pre-mixed alloy 950 Clay form
In the past, many artists mixed and kneaded silver and copper clay, trying to obtain silver sterling clay with stronger characteristics for their creations. This experimenting method left room for inconsistent results and sometimes total failures after firing their creations.
Art Clay Silver 950 is a high-quality clay that comes in a pre-mixed clay form and is ready to be used after opening the unsealing manufacture package.
The clay is backed up by the quality guarantee of Aida Chemicals, Japan’s Art Clay manufacturer.
Clay components ratio, Shrinkage, and Purity after firing
90% of the clay is silver and copper alloy powder, and 10% is binder and water.
It shrinks a little more than the regular Art Clay Silver series. Its shrinkage is 11-13%.
Silver purity after firing is 950. Approx. 11-13%
* For making a ring, allow extra shrinkage one size more than the one that was made with regular ACS.
Firing condition – Open Shelf Firing
Another great feature is that you DO NOT need a box full of carbon to fire.
• Always fire in an electric kiln controlling the temperature. We recommend a kiln with a temperature controller. Not suitable for gas stove or torch firing. Please make sure to read the firing instructions as conditions are different from the regular Art Clay Silver series.
After drying your project, follow these steps:
1. Place your project in a kiln at room temperature, and set the kiln temperature at 932 F (500C)
2. Full ramp to 932F (500C) and hold for 30 minutes.
3. Once the kiln reaches 932F (500C), set the kiln temp to go to 1598F (870C), and hold it for 60 minutes.
4. Turn off the kiln and wait until the kiln temperature drops at least to 392F (200C)
5. Take the project out of the kiln and wait until the piece cools down completely or leave it in the kiln until the temperature drops to room temperature.
Storage
Since Art Clay Silver 950 will dry out naturally during usage, take out only the required working amount, wrap the remainder tightly with plastic wrap securely, avoiding air exposure, and store it in a sealed container.
If you wish to store the clay for a long time, seal the remainder unused clay tightly in plastic wrap and store it in a refrigerator. Storing the Art Clay Silver 950 Professional in a fridge will help reduce oxidation. Please ensure there are no gaps between the clay and the plastic wrap when storing. *Please don’t store it in the freezer.
